David joined TransRe in 1997 as an underwriter in the Special Casualty Underwriting Department focusing on a variety of professional liability accounts including Medical, D&O and other Miscellaneous E&O lines. In 2006 he was asked to join the Global Risk Management department established that year to help develop and manage extreme events analysis, risk tolerances and aggregates as well as emerging risks to the organization.

Prior to TransRe, David was an underwriter in the casualty treaty division of Munich America Reinsurance in New York where he was responsible for underwriting, technical analysis, client audit and business development of general third party and professional liability classes of business. He previously worked for smaller international reinsurance companies in New York as well as the publicly traded primary insurance broker, Brown & Brown.

David is an adjunct assistant professor at St. John’s University in New York City and has been teaching and presenting on insurance and reinsurance topics globally for St. John’s, TransRe, RAA, BRMA and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) for over two decades.

Deb Goldberg (PANELIST)

Debra Goldberg, JD, MPH, RPLU serves as Underwriting Counsel for Validus Specialty Underwriting Services, an AIG Company. Prior insurance roles include Chief Underwriting Officer of Sapphire Blue, an MGU specializing in long term care and allied healthcare risks and Managing Director of Medical Underwriting for Markel Services Incorporated, where she was responsible for growth and profitability of the company’s medical professional liability business including allied health care, medical facility, and physician, surgeon and dentist professional liability. Deb began her career as a medical malpractice defense attorney representing hospitals and healthcare providers in Cook County, Illinois, and the surrounding area. She worked as an insurance coverage attorney with a focus on professional liability E&O coverage and reinsurance. Deb received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis and holds a Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University School of Law and a Master's Degree in Public Health from the George Washington University School of Public Health. She is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) and has earned the organization's RPLU designation. Deb has been a frequent speaker at medical professional liability industry events on underwriting trends, has conducted continuing education courses on medical professional liability, has published articles on national healthcare legislation and its impact on insurance coverage, and has previously served as the instructor on Medical Professional Liability at PLUS University.

Debbie is a Managing Director and the national manager of the Private and Nonprofit Practice within Aon’s Financial Services Group (“FSG”). In this role, Debbie is responsible for overseeing a staff of 50 and providing management focus and customer service for the management liability needs of Aon’s private and nonprofit clients. She is responsible for operational strategy, carrier and client relationships and personnel management for the team.<br/><br/>
Debbie has been with Aon since 2003 and her areas of expertise include analyzing exposure and placing coverage for Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Crime/Fidelity Insurance, Kidnap & Ransom Insurance, Professional Liability Insurance and related products for private company and nonprofit clients.<br/><br/>
Debbie’s insurance career began with AIG in 1989 as an underwriter in their management liability department for private and nonprofit clients. In 1999, she joined Kemper Insurance Company’s new management liability department and transferred to Chicago to open the Central region management liability office. <br/><br/>
Debbie received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics from Cornell University (1989) and a MBA in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business (1994). She has an RPLU designation from the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS). She is co-President and co-Reunion Chair of the Cornell Class of 1989 and is a past President of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

Edmund McAlister (PANELIST)

Edmund McAlister concentrates his practice on insurance coverage disputes under general liability, D&O liability, and all-risk insurance policies as well as on general commercial litigation. His litigation experience includes large, complex, and high profile cases. He has litigated numerous coverage and bad faith matters for domestic and foreign insurer clients. Mr. McAlister successfully prosecuted the first-ever bilateral class action lawsuit arising out of the demutualization of the Chicago Board of Trade, and prosecuted unlawful competition and tortious interference claims on behalf of a publicly traded company that resulted in a permanent injunction. In addition, Mr. McAlister represents the country’s premier provider of armed maritime security, and first-chaired a trial to determine if former Navy SEALS providing armed security aboard U.S.-flagged merchant ships were “independent contractors.” Mr. McAlister's publications include: <em>Persistent Threat</em>, CARGO SECURITY INTERNATIONAL, London, January 2015 (outlining challenges facing security professionals and logisticians dealing with piracy in the Gulf of Guinea); <em>The Barbarians are at the Gate, and the Junta Won't Return My Calls... Eileen Hess (PANELIST)

Eileen joined AGCS October 2015 as a Financial Lines Zonal Leader for Midwest and the South. As such, she is responsible for communicating strategy internally and externally, managing broker relationships and providing underwriting support for the commercial management liability group. <br/><br/>
Eileen has held a variety of leadership roles in the insurance industry for over the past 27 years. Most recently, Eileen was a Placement Specialist for the Financial and Professional (FINPRO) Practice Marsh’s Chicago office. She was responsible for placement for the Central Zone, negotiating manuscript coverage terms and pricing for Fortune 500 International clients. <br/><br/>
Prior to Marsh, Eileen managed the Central Zone for AIG’s Merger and Acquisition (M&A) Group. In that capacity, Eileen and her team worked with clients to provide independent evaluations of various liabilities and to devise creative solutions for risk transfer, reps and warranties, litigation buyouts, or a combination thereof. <br/><br/>

John Black is a leading insurance law attorney, with over thirty-five years of experience in insurance law and regulation. A substantial part of John’s practice focuses on information security and privacy law, media liability and e-commerce and related insurance coverages. He assists insurers in drafting and interpreting insurance policies for first-party and third-party privacy risks, technology errors and omissions and media liability, and representing insurers as coverage counsel concerning claims under these policies, including claims for data breach remediation and notification, data destruction, business interruption and civil litigation and regulatory investigations involving privacy breaches.

John speaks and writes frequently on legal and insurance issues concerning privacy and information security. John co-authored the chapter on information security in the Revised Internet Law for the Business Lawyer (2d ed. 2012), which was updated and re-published in RFID, Near Field Communications and Mobile Payments - A Guide for Lawyers (2013), by the ABA Business Law Section, Cyberspace Law Committee. John is co-chairman of the ABA Cyberspace Law Committee’s Cyber Insurance Sub-Committee.

Peggy Reetz focuses her practice on cybersecurity and privacy issues. Pete is Vice President and head of the Private & Non-Profit Management Liability Business Unit for Travelers Bond & Specialty Insurance, a division of Travelers Insurance Co. He is also the President of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) and on their Board of Trustees.<br/><br/>
He began his career with Aetna in upstate NY where he was a Field Rep for the ML and Surety business. He then was promoted to various positions in their Hartford, CT Home Office and then transferred to Travelers in 1996 working in various ML management jobs. He has managed Financial Institution, Public Company, and more recently Private and Non-Profit customer businesses. He has also led a product development/management group for a period.<br/><br/>

Dr. Phil Norton currently provides independent consulting to Gallagher in a Management Liability (ML) leadership role and as part-time risk and insurance manager, particularly for the E&O and M&A risks of Gallagher. Previously, he led the ML Practice for 24 years, and founded the Cyber and Reps & Warranties practices. Phil is regarded as one of the world’s leading ML authorities, having spoken throughout North America, Bermuda, Europe, and Asia. Dr. Norton is a PLUS Founders Award winner and an 8-time <em>Risk and Insurance</em> power broker. Historically, he has been widely published, including authoring the Wyatt D&O survey report.

Robert Cap is an Account Executive with the Executive Liability Division of Risk Placement Services, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois. A licensed insurance producer in the State of Illinois, he has worked for several insurance carriers in roles such as Vice-President of Underwriting, Assistant Vice-President, Executive Director, Managing Director, Product Manager, Underwriting Team Leader, Underwriter and Senior Claims Attorney. Prior to joining the insurance industry, Robert practiced Insurance Defense Litigation in Chicago and throughout the State of Illinois. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois and maintains inactive status in Indiana. Robert has obtained the RPLU, CPCU, ARM and ASLI designations, and has served as a presenter, moderator, instructor and author for many industry events and publications. He received a B.S. in Finance from DePaul University College of Commerce in Chicago, Illinois and a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in Valparaiso, Indiana. Robert is active with several Non-Profit entities, and serves as the President of the Board of a Social Service agency located in Chicago. Serge Adam is a Complex Claim Analyst with Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. During the span of his 20 year career in the industry, he has held roles as VP of claims with a leading middle market brokerage firm, AVP of claims with a leading specialty insurance carrier, and as a partner in a law firm where he counseled carriers on coverage matters and successfully litigated matters in federal, state and in various administrative tribunals. <br/><br/>
His insurance knowledge and experience include coverage and claims arising under public, private and non-profit directors and officer’s liability policy forms as well as employment practices and lawyer’s malpractice policy forms.
