P&C Insurance Agents: Avoiding Common Pitfalls and Assessing Risk
This panel will discuss how documentation of insurance advice and recommendations is critical to defending P&C insurance agent claims, as many matters come down to a credibility contest. Unfortunately, the informal attitude towards the personal relationship between the agent and his/her client is often carried over to the keeping of records, consequently resulting in an empty file. The panel will review the duties and obligations of an agent and provide procedures and protocol for documenting a file. The panel will also examine how these procedures will lead to a better underwriting risk for those carriers insuring these agents.

Attendees will learn:

-A checklist for best practices for P&C agents of when documentation is appropriate in handling their client's insurance needs.

-How this documentation plays a role in the defense of an errors & omissions claim.

-How the existence, or non existence, of these practices implicate the underwriting of this risk.
