MPL Market Update
The MPL market continues to evolve and all segments of the market have their own unique opportunities and challenges. Bill Burns of Conning will discuss recent MPL insurance industry financial results and the key drivers of these results. The session will provide Conning’s perspective on what the future might hold for the MPL market and how agents, brokers, carrier staff and providers can prepare for challenges they will likely face. |

Hospitals & Physicians: Black Coffee, No Sugar, No Cream
Integrated delivery systems have been aggressively acquiring physician practices in order to align patient goals and to satisfy new accountable care standards. The trend has stalled according to the AMA. Pricing pressures are abound. Excess pricing is pennies on the dollar. Terms and conditions are wide open. Yet liability issues are growing because of the changing face of the institutional policy holder. There is much to discuss. |

Life Sciences: The Intersection of Professional Liability & Products Liability
Navigating this healthcare segment is very complex. This panel will address the varying exposures in each segment of business (biotech/pharma, medical devices, clinical trials, nutraceuticals), what lines of business are considered and what are the emerging litigation risks and complexities (class actions, significant defense costs). The panel will discuss how this exposure is managed in the hospital setting. Lastly, the panel will also discuss regulatory considerations (FDA), corporate governance/compliance and ethical considerations and exposure to domestic and foreign risk, product recall, and doctors going rogue. |
||
2:45 pm - 3:45 pm | ||
Miscellaneous Facilities: Everyone in the Pool!
This is the area of growth for medical professional and commercial carriers alike. This segment consists of a broad class of insureds with a diverse hazard composition. The panel will discuss the approach to these risks with the challenge of little public information. The panel will look at the broad class grouping & underwriting challenges (terms and conditions, reemergence of Occurrence form, inconsistent rating approach - is it revenue, visits, beds? Issues associated with Public/Private/Not-for-profit, lack of uniform standard policies/ procedures, reliance on mid-level providers, influx of private equity, batch claims). |
||
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm | ||
Managed Care Errors & Omissions: Healthcare on the Forefront of the Nation's Mind
In the uncertain healthcare environment, Managed Care Organizations are at the forefront of the political debate due to changes and potentially more changes in the Affordable Care Act. As a result, healthcare is experiencing transformational change, driven by unrelenting financial pressure and the pace of technology. Therein, healthcare delivery models are evolving from a fractured, highly inefficient, fee for service delivery model to a more integrated system of providers providing care across the healthcare delivery spectrum. |
||
5:15 pm - 7:15 pm | ||
Opening Night Reception |
||
Wednesday - March 21 | ||
8:30 am - 9:30 am | ||
The Challenges of LTC in a Dynamic Market
The panel will look at the current market, consider differentiation of types of risks (for-profit vs. not-for profit/religious affiliated, SNF vs. ALF) and frequency and severity climate. The panel will also look at Jurisdictional issues (state by state tort reform, impact of elder abuse/dependent adult statutes), regulatory climate (payment scheme, difference in ALF state regulatory framework, staffing) and coverage (interplay of PL and GL coverage, punitive damage potential). The panel will also consider if surveys are a reliable predictor of loss. |
||
9:45 am - 10:45 am | ||
