This session will look at the state of the MPL market and the headline challenges the market is facing. Robin Davis of Conning will discuss 2022 MPL insurance industry financial results and the key drivers of these results. She will also discuss trends in claim frequency and severity and how the industry is responding by way of pricing. The session will then provide Conning’s perspective on challenges MPL insurers are facing, including changes in healthcare that are impacting insurers. The session will conclude with Conning’s view of what the short and long-term future might hold for the MPL market.

Chris Wojciechowski (MODERATOR)
Chris Wojciechowski joined K2 Insurance Services in 2023 as Chief Growth Officer. Chris is responsible for capacity, reinsurance and M&A across K2’s 30 business units globally. Prior to joining K2, Chris was a Partner at TigerRisk Partners responsible for new business origination and servicing of TigerRisk’s casualty, PL and MGA portfolio. Prior to TigerRisk, Chris was a Treaty Reinsurance broker at Aon Benfield in Chicago, where he was responsible for a portfolio of global, national, and regional Casualty, Professional Lines, and Mortgage clients. Prior to Aon Benfield, Chris was Director of Business Development for MagMutual Group, a Medical Professional Liability carrier based in Atlanta. He started his (re)insurance career as a Treaty Analyst at Willis Re in Chicago. Chris earned his BA in Economics, with a Minor in Mathematics, from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Deepika Srivastava (PANELIST)
Deepika Srivastava, MBA, PMP, is Executive Vice President of MPL and The Doctors Company (TDC) Group Shared Services. Ms. Srivastava oversees the operations of the medical professional liability (MPL) business. In addition, she leads the group shared services of Business Development, Innovation, Digital Strategy, Technology, and Enterprise Project Office for TDC Group. Prior to this, she was TDC’s Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Security Officer.
Ms. Srivastava is a transformational executive with a deep understanding of the insurance business, technology transformation, and change management. Throughout her 20-year tenure with TDC, she has built a reputation for developing solutions which drive organizational agility, efficiency, and shape business strategy. Ms. Srivastava envisioned a digitally agile business and championed the transformation and modernization of TDC’s business technology portfolio.
Ms. Srivastava holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and a bachelor’s degree in science from the University of Lucknow, India. She completed the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program from Stanford University and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Ms. Srivastava is passionate about mentoring emerging women leaders and serves on the advisory board of Michigan State University’s Actuarial Science Program.

Gordon Wright (PANELIST)
Gordon Wright is a trial lawyer focusing his practice on the preparation and trial of lawsuits. In more than 31 years of practice he has tried cases relating to business disputes, personal injuries, intellectual property, medical negligence, birth trauma, wrongful death, and professional malpractice.
Licensed in Texas, California, Oregon, and Utah, Gordon focuses his practice on the preparation and trial of complex cases. In recent trials Gordon has successfully obtained verdicts in favor of his clients, which protected them from paying alleged damages amounting to millions of dollars and which vindicated their professional competence. In several recent representations, Gordon has represented attorneys whose competence and reputations have been successfully protected.
In addition to handling cases where he has been admitted to practice, Gordon has also represented clients in other states, trying a case to verdict in Alabama and representing large hospitals in other states.
Gordon has litigated complex birth injury cases, trade secret cases, copyright issues, employment law matters, products liability cases, contract disputes, insurance bad faith claims and all kinds of business and personal tort litigations. He has successfully tried matters in federal and state courts. Gordon has fought injunctions that would have been fatal to the continued existence of his corporate clients had they been granted. Gordon Wright’s breadth of experience and diverse practice ranging from complex business cases to emotionally charged birth trauma cases are expanding as the law changes and new areas of litigation become important.
Though most of his professional endeavor is in the trial of lawsuits, Gordon has successfully represented clients in appellate cases and has counseled clients on non-litigated matters ranging from obtaining and defending trademarks to advising clergy on the protection of children when abuse is alleged.

Jean-Paul Rebillard (PANELIST)
Jean-Paul Rebillard is President of MedPro Specialty at MedPro Group, a Berkshire Hathaway company. He leads a business that delivers insurance, claims and risk management solutions to health systems, senior care providers, healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals.
Prior to joining MedPro in 2014, Jean-Paul spent more than 14 years at Marsh McLennan, a global insurance brokerage, serving clients in healthcare and other industries through a series of increasingly challenging assignments, including leadership roles in Marsh’s healthcare practice. His insurance career began at the Pennsylvania Mcare Fund in 1995, following several years in marketing and management consulting.
Jean-Paul earned a B.A. and M.G.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. He lives with his family outside Philadelphia, PA.

John Telenko (MODERATOR)
Based in Philadelphia, John is the Underwriting Leader for MedPro Group’s Hospital Division of the Specialty Group and continues to play a nationwide role for Alternative Risk products. Previously John had been a Senior Vice President with Allied World Assurance Company (AWAC) in the Healthcare Casualty department from October 2008 to August 2014. With AWAC he led the large account underwriting initiative for AWAC (US) and previously was the AWAC (BDA) Branch Manager for healthcare. John has been involved with underwriting medical malpractice liability insurance for 30+ years.
John is a graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA with a Bachelor of Science, Mathematics degree and he has also achieved his RPLU designation from the Professional Liability Underwriting Society.

Richard Henderson (PANELIST)

Richard Henderson is a Vice President with Transatlantic Reinsurance Company (TransRe). Mr. Henderson has headed Transatlantic's medical malpractice claims department for the past 16 years and has more than 30 years of medical malpractice claims experience. He is actively involved with TransRe's reinsured's‚ brokers and Third Party Administrators in refining their claim handling strategies and in providing meaningful input as to industry trends and claim handling tactics. Mr. Henderson graduated magna cum laude from John Jay College in 1984 and has continued his insurance industry education through completion of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)‚ Associate in Claims (AIC)‚ Associate in Underwriting (AU) & Associate in Risk Management (ARM) programs.</p>

Robin Davis
Robin Davis is a Director in Conning’s Insurance Research Group where she is responsible for producing research and strategic studies related to the property/casualty industry and consulting on insurance topics. She specifically focuses on medical professional liability, reinsurance and general liability. Robin has over 25 years of property/casualty insurance experience within insurance companies, Big 4 firms, actuarial and risk management consulting firms. She has performed pricing, loss reserving, product development, capital modelling, internal and external audits, and mergers and acquisitions analysis. Her clients have included insurance, reinsurance, and captive insurance companies, regulators, attorneys, and self-insured firms. She has worked extensively with medical malpractice providers and hospital systems. She is a graduate of the University of California, Davis with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Statistics and History and earned a Master of Science in Financial Analytics at Santa Clara University. Robin is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) and Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.

<div>Tara Gibson is the senior vice president of claims at Coverys. She is responsible for overseeing claims management across the Coverys enterprise and is committed to providing quality claims services for Coverys policyholders. Tara has been a member of the Coverys team since 1998 and has previously served as vice president of risk management, senior manager and manager of underwriting, and product development manager.  She holds registered professional liability underwriter (RPLU), chartered property and casualty underwriter (CPCU), associate in fidelity and surety bonding (ASFB), and associate in reinsurance (ARe) designations. Tara is also a licensed Massachusetts Property and Casualty Broker and holds non-resident licenses throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. She is a graduate of Rider University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. </div>
