This session explores the evolving medical staffing landscape in 2026. It centers on how shifting demand drivers, the expanding role of allied health professionals, regulatory and operational risks, and urban–rural disparities are reshaping staffing strategies. We look at the impact of technology on coverage, compliance, and future staffing models, framing staffing as both a workforce and systems-level challenge.

This session features insights into professional liability claim trends from defense counsel, a claims leader, and a healthcare risk executive currently on the front lines. The panel will discuss the challenges defense attorneys and claims adjudicators face, and how these challenges can affect loss severity and underwriting decisions. Attendees will gain a new appreciation of how the professional liability landscape is evolving and how providers, claims professionals and defense attorneys are working to minimize and control risk.

Changes in federal and state regulations in the last several years has impacted the Professional Liability Insurance industry in multiple ways including claims that may be pursued, the standard of care, and underwriting consideration. We’ll use recent changes to the recommended vaccine schedule as a case study for examining these issues.
