Is the CPLP Designation Worth It? One Professional’s Story

How to Earn the CPLP Designation

The CPLP Designation is designed for professionals looking to demonstrate expertise in cyber liability insurance. Follow the steps below to start your journey.

Step 1: Join PLUS and Confirm Your Experience

Become a PLUS member for free and confirm you have at least 2 years of insurance industry experience.

Not there yet? You can still enroll and begin working toward your designation. Your application will be reviewed once all requirements are met.

Step 2: Enroll in the CPLP Designation Program

Start the process by enrolling in the CPLP Designation Program here.

During enrollment, you'll:

  • Confirm your industry start date
  • Pay the $150 application fee
  • Get access to track your progress toward designation
Step 3: Complete the Required Modules
Step 4: Complete Cyber University

Cyber University is a required component of the CPLP designation and is available in two formats:

  • Live: Held once per year
  • On-Demand: Available year-round

You must attend the full live session or complete the entire on-demand program to fulfill this requirement.

Step 5: Affirm Completion

After completing all requirements, visit your Education Programs Dashboard and click "Affirm Completion" under the CPLP program. Once approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email with designation-specific information, including how to download your designation certificate. Note: This approval process can take a few business days.

Step 6: Maintain Your Designation

To maintain your CPLP, report 12 hours of cyber-related professional development every two years. Failure to do so may result in PLUS revoking your designation.

Professional development does not need to be state-approved, and repeating Cyber University does not count toward these hours.
