Before You Go: Tips from Future PLUS to Make the Most of the PLUS Conference

The PLUS Conference is just around the corner, and whether you’re a first-time attendee or a seasoned pro, a little preparation can make a big difference in your experience. We asked our Future PLUS Conference Welcome Task Force to share their best advice, and they delivered a goldmine of tips to help you make the most of your time in Orlando. These professionals know firsthand how to navigate the event, build connections, and maximize the experience. Their advice is based on real lessons learned, memorable conversations, and plenty of time spent at past conferences.

Here’s what our team recommends before you pack your bags:

1. Mindset Matters
   Your experience is all about how you approach it. Say yes to coffee chats, happy hours, and all the events PLUS has planned. You never know who you’ll meet; a new friend, mentor, or even a future colleague.
2. Do Your Homework
   Check the attendee list ahead of time. Reach out to contacts you want to reconnect with or new folks you’d love to meet. Scheduling a few lunches or coffee catch-ups in advance can help you hit the ground running.
3. Be Weather-Ready & Wardrobe-Wise
   Don’t forget to check the weather. Pack a mix of business and casual clothes, plus comfy shoes for walking.
4. Bring What You Need to Connect
   Business cards may be less common these days, but connection is still key. Have a QR code or LinkedIn link ready to share and always try to remember names at networking events so you can follow up later.
5. Conference Is a Marathon, Not a Sprint
   Stay energized and pace yourself. Take breaks, stay hydrated, and recharge when needed.
6. Take Notes and Share the Knowledge
   Bring a notebook or use your phone to jot down insights from panels. Offering to present a recap to your team back home is a great way to reinforce what you’ve learned and show leadership.
7. Get Involved with PLUS

• During conference, get involved by participating in the Conference Cause.
• After the conference has concluded, consider continuing your involvement in PLUS by joining a Future PLUS Subcommittee, registering for the Future PLUS Mentorship Network, getting involved in your local chapter, or attending additional PLUS Events.
