Debbie Schaffel Honored with the 2023 PLUS Founders Award

PLUS is delighted to announce that Debbie Schaffel is the recipient of the 2023 PLUS Founders Award. The prestigious recognition was presented at the 36th annual PLUS Conference, which was held from December 4-6, 2023 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The annual national event provides an incomparable platform for industry professionals to come together, learn and celebrate outstanding achievements in the professional liability insurance industry.

The PLUS Founders Award acknowledges an outstanding member of PLUS who has made lasting and remarkable contributions to the Society. Named in honor of PLUS Founder, Angelo J. Gioia, this award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to PLUS and has significantly influenced the professional liability insurance landscape.

The selection process for the Founders Award considers various criteria, including active membership in PLUS, involvement in PLUS activities, creative problem-solving and innovation in addressing PLUS tasks, dedication of time and effort to the organization, promotion of PLUS within the industry and the public, contributions to enhancing the image of PLUS, and active participation in developing, implementing, improving and sustaining PLUS programs.

Ms. Schaffel currently serves as the Chief Broking Officer at CoverWallet, an Aon company, and she is responsible for overseeing and implementing the carrier relationship strategy to ensure small business clients receive best-in-market coverage options. Ms. Schaffel began her liability career in 1989 and has continued her career with Aon for over twenty years. Her expertise includes analyzing risk exposures and placing coverage for Directors and Officer’s Liability, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Professional Liability Insurance, and related products for private companies and nonprofit clients.
