Japhet Boutin

Japhet Boutin is the Senior Vice President and Head of Technical Claims for Zurich North America. In this role, she leads the Technical Claims Department, which encompasses Financial Lines Claims, Surety, Latent and Environmental Claims, and Property Claims.

Prior to her current position, Japhet served as Vice President and Director of Financial Lines Claims, where she oversaw all aspects of Zurich North America’s Financial Lines Claims operations. Her leadership spanned a broad portfolio including Public and Private Directors & Officers (D&O), Financial Institutions Errors & Omissions (E&O), Professional Liability (including Cyber), Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability, Professional Programs, Accident & Health (A&H), and Healthcare.

Japhet joined Zurich North America in 2009 as Senior Coverage Counsel within the Claims Legal Division. With more than 25 years of experience in the insurance industry—as both an attorney and a claims professional—she brings deep expertise and strategic insight to her work. Before joining Zurich, she held various claims roles at AIG following her transition from private legal practice.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College, Columbia University, and earned her Juris Doctor from Temple University Law School.

Japhet is a recognized industry leader and advocate for professional development. She served as co-chair of the PLUS Conference from 2023 to 2025 and was a Fellow of the Partnership for New York City. She currently sits on the board of The Bridge Transcends, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the growth of female talent in Financial Lines insurance.
