Career Path Spotlight: Anthony Campisi | Vice President, Regional Underwriting Manager at Sompo International
How did you get started in the industry?
Like most, I fell into it. I graduated from Stony Brook University and while out of college I worked a couple odd end jobs such as coaching, office supply sales, and retail. Through a friend I heard about an opening at Aon as an associate broker. At the time, I only associated Aon with European soccer, however after some research I saw the opportunity to find a career.

What are the most relevant/important skills someone looking to follow your career path should work on developing?
It’s important to stay engaged and inquisitive daily. You’re constantly presented with information to process and it’s crucial to stay organized and to prioritize. I’d also add the ability to build and foster strong relationships is necessary for growth. Like most industries, insurance is relationship based and maintain a foundation of support can only propel your career. Finally, I’d say it’s important to see both sides of an argument. The best way to come to a solution is understanding the bigger picture.
What advice do you have for someone not currently in your career field that has an interest in following your career path?
Be proactive and don’t hesitate to reach out when you see an opportunity. The insurance industry is always searching for talent and it’s amazing how far one conversation can go.

Achieving a goal as a team, creating new relationships, and being a mentor and a teacher.
