So many PLUS members volunteer their time, energy, and expertise in a wide variety of roles throughout the organization. They are leaders with PLUS and leaders within the professional liability community. We asked some of these fantastic volunteers about their experiences with PLUS, and are happy to share them with you. This is the first post in a series of responses from volunteer leaders across the organization, from Symposia Chairs to Board Members to Chapter Chairs. These are the people that help make PLUS the organization and the community that it is.

Allison Barrett

  • What is your volunteer role(s) with PLUS? I am currently President of the PLUS Foundation. In this capacity, I volunteer throughout the year on behalf of PLUS at events such as Conference Cause, our charitable initiative that is held every year at the PLUS International Conference in November.
  • Why do you volunteer with PLUS? Volunteering with PLUS provides a different dimension to my professional experience. It greatly enhances how connected I feel to the industry I love.
  • How has volunteering for PLUS impacted your career? It has enabled me to meet industry colleagues from all over the country and form new bonds through giving back. Although we might be competitors, we share a bond in those moments we are united by a passion for doing good work that serves the communities in which we live and work.

Jacqueline Waters

  • What is your volunteer role(s) with PLUS? My volunteer role with PLUS is as a Board of Trustees member and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board.
  • Why do you volunteer with PLUS? I chose to volunteer with PLUS because I find it a great way to network with colleagues in my industry and specialty, and have input into the education of the next generation of industry specialists and leaders.
  • How has volunteering for PLUS impacted your career? It has impacted my career by keeping me at the forefront of issues and connecting me to an even broader swath of those in the industry.
  • What are some of your favorite things about volunteering with PLUS? I enjoy the participation in the group events and networking with colleagues at the conferences and events.
  • What has been your most memorable PLUS volunteer experience? So far, I really enjoyed the mentoring project I participated in at the 2021 International Conference I met with a young woman just starting in business and we worked on her resume and plans to pursue her chosen field.
  • What are you looking forward to in the coming months in regard to volunteering with PLUS? I am very much looking forward to the resumption of all our in person events and working on conference planning.

Pascal Millaire

  • What is your volunteer role(s) with PLUS? I am proud to be a PLUS Cyber Symposium Chair.
  • Why do you volunteer with PLUS? I am energized by PLUSs non-profit mission to support the career development of individuals in the professional liability insurance community and want to play my part in supporting that objective.
  • How has volunteering for PLUS impacted your career? I am fortunate to serve on as a PLUS Cyber Symposium Chair alongside 3 exceptional colleagues. As we work together to collectively define the trends and topics most impacting our industry for PLUS events, its a great source of input for my own role in ensuring we are developing the right analytics to support underwriters with on these topics.
  • What are some of your favorite things about volunteering with PLUS? I appreciate how dynamic the cyber insurance market is. The topics we cover change, sometimes quite dramatically, from year-to-year, which makes it really engaging to keep our subject-matter relevant.
  • What has been your most memorable PLUS volunteer experience? I was fortunate enough to be asked to moderate a fireside chat withChristopher Wylie, the Cambridge Analytica Facebook whistleblower. Given the charged nature of the subject matter, I enjoyed the challenge of interviewing with an open mind, a sense of impartiality but also pushing our keynote speaker to make it an engaging session for PLUS members.
  • What are you looking forward to in the coming months in regard to volunteering with PLUS?Im looking forward the PLUS Cyber Symposium in New York. Its always a highlight in the annual cyber insurance events calendar for me and we have an excellent session planned.

Alaina Cole

  • What is your volunteer role(s) with PLUS? Member of the Future PLUS Leadership Committee, Head of the Future PLUS Mentorship Task Force.
  • Why do you volunteer with PLUS? I am passionate about fostering opportunities for personal and professional development, and volunteering with PLUS lets me support these efforts not just for my own company, but for others in our industry.
  • How has volunteering for PLUS impacted your career? Volunteering has expanded my network within the professional liability industry, and allowed me to engage in more educational and professional development experiences.
  • What are some of your favorite things about volunteering with PLUS? The people! We all have such diverse backgrounds and work in different areas of the industry, but it has been great to get to know all the folks that come together and choose to volunteer their time to support PLUS.
  • What has been your most memorable PLUS volunteer experience? Connecting with other Future PLUS members and leaders at the PLUS Conference in Dallas! So much of my experience with PLUS has been online, so it was awesome to bring that into the real world.
  • What are you looking forward to in the coming months in regard to volunteering with PLUS?Were supporting our current Future PLUS Mentorship cohort, and working with the task force on what we can add to the program for the upcoming 2022-2023 cycle!
