PLUS Healthcare & Medical PL Symposium Provides Leading Industry Insights
The Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) recently hosted its annual Healthcare & Medical Professional Liability Symposium, bringing over 400 healthcare liability professionals from around the world together for education and networking. The event took place from April 17 to April 19 in Dallas, TX at the Hilton Anatole.
This years symposium was one of the most successful Healthcare & Medical PL Symposiums PLUS has held with the best attendance since 2012. In fact, 95% of surveyed attendees said they would recommend the symposium to a colleague.
Attendees had the ability to earn up to 6 CE/CLE credits with a hybrid approach of 3 live, on-site sessions and 3 post-event webinars. The event also included networking opportunities and activities such as Pickleball, five sponsor-led sessions, and PLUS hosted welcome reception and happy hour. Event photos can be viewed on our Facebook page.
The live sessions at this years symposium included:
⇓ MPL Market Update by Conning

⇓ Staffing Crisis in Healthcare Facilities
Wednesday, May 3rd 11:00am CT
With the current staffing crisis in healthcare facilities, it is key that professional liability insurance professionals are aware of the risks and how they can support insureds in identifying areas of opportunity to improve patient safety and implement risk mitigation strategies. This session will review the existing staffing challenges that healthcare facilities face, including risks related to understaffing and supplemental staffing, and risks to patient safety and outcomes. Attendees will gain knowledge of the relevant claims data, questions to ask insureds/potential insureds regarding staffing-related policies and procedures, and strategies to mitigate risks and reduce medical malpractice claims.
⇓ Sexual Abuse and Molestation Claims: Settled Waters or Rocky Seas Ahead?
Wednesday, May 17th 1:00pm CT
Tragic in their facts and expensive to defend, dispute and/or indemnify, sexual abuse and molestation (SAM) claims continue to plague both society at large and the insurance industry in particular. This webinar will discuss the circumstances in which sexual abuse and molestation claims arise, best practices in both defense and risk management, and outline the impact of window or reviver statutes enacted by a number of state legislatures. Attendees will gain insight into the circumstances that give rise to SAM claims in medical facilities, the challenges of defending these claims, and risk management tools to try and minimize the development of these claims.
⇓ Private Equity
Wednesday, July 19th 1:00pm CT
Private Equity will be the last session in the three-part Healthcare & Medical Professional Liability webinar series. This session will be instructed by John Livatino of Beazley.
